A news conference featuring John L. Hall, co-winner of the 2005 Nobel Prize in physics, will be held at 3 p.m. (EDT) (1 p.m. Mountain time) today on the 10th floor of the JILA Tower at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Hall is a senior research associate and fellow of JILA, a joint institute of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and of CU-Boulder. Hall was awarded the Nobel Prize today along with American Roy J. Glauber of Harvard University and Theodor Hänsch of Max-Planck-Institut für Quantenoptik, Garching and Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität, Munich, Germany.

Hall and Hänsch were cited by the Nobel committee "for their contributions to the development of laser-based precision spectroscopy," while Glauber was cited for "his contribution to the quantum theory of optical coherence."

Audioconferencing equipment will allow reporters unable to attend the news conference in person to listen in and ask questions via telephone. Reporters should call 1-(888)-664-9860 (toll-free for U.S. callers) or (773) 756-4626 (for non-U.S. callers). The password for this audioconference is "Nobel Prize."

To get to JILA from Denver, take U.S. 36 to Boulder until it becomes 28th Street. Turn left (west) at the first traffic light at Colorado Avenue. Drive west on Colorado Avenue for about three blocks until you come to a CU-Boulder parking kiosk and follow instructions from the people at the kiosk.
