June 10 Ceremony Launches NIST-Maine Partnership
for Technology Advancement |
|
| Gov. Angus King and Acting U.S. Under Secretary
of Commerce for Technology Gary Bachula will sign a Letter
of Partnership during a ceremony in the Capitol's Hall of Flags
on Thursday, June 10, from 11:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.
The ceremony will officially launch a National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) - Maine Partnership, which includes a pilot program designed to bring technology-related benefits to Maine and the nation. By partnering on science and technology projects of mutual interest, Maine and NIST can add benefit to the state and national economies. Maine and NIST already have many good working relationships, but this partnership will launch new initiatives. NIST is a U.S. Commerce Department agency that works with industry to develop and apply technology, measurements and standards. Areas to be covered include ways to strengthen the Maine science and technology infrastructure, weights and measures, optics, composite materials, construction materials, organizational performance excellence and quality improvement, and export-critical standards-related matters.
