Date: Saturday, May 19, 2001 Time: 9 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Place: As part of its year-long centennial celebration, the Department of Commerce's National Institute of Standards and Technology will host the Kids on the Run races for young people ages 18 and under on May 19. Co-sponsors are NIST and the Montgomery County Road Runners. The event, to be held rain or shine, is non-competitive and should provide numerous photo opportunities for print and broadcast media. The day's agenda is as follows: 9:00 a.m. 100 Meter Toddler Trot NIST has been instrumental in supporting local programs for young people in the Greater Washington, D.C., area. This past week, NIST held an open house for 7,600 local students to educate them on the importance of science and technology in today's global economy. NIST also recently participated in "Take Our Daughters To Work Day." NIST offers many tutorial and community service programs geared toward young people.
