NIST Debuts New Fuel Cell Imaging Facility; Media Invited to Join Maryland Senator
For Immediate
Release: Aug.14, 2006
Join Maryland Senator Barbara Mikulski on Tuesday, August 15, in learning about a major new research instrument at the Commerce Department’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) that provides a real-time window on the internal workings of full-size hydrogen fuel cells. With the recently commissioned Neutron Imaging Facility, researchers can obtain information necessary to optimize water management inside fuel cells, vital to meeting targets for performance and reliability. Ultimately, meeting these targets is key to replacing petroleum with hydrogen to power cars and trucks by 2020 – the goal of President Bush’s Hydrogen Fuel Initiative.
Also, reporters can inspect and test drive the HydroGen3, an experimental five-passenger GM minivan with a hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system.
