Media Advisory For Immediate Release: March 27, 2003 Contacts: Commerce Secretary To Address Importance Of Corporate Governance To America's Overall Security And Success Commerce Secretary Don Evans will give the keynote address at the Quest for Excellence Conference XV - the official conference of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. Secretary Evans will recognize the 2002 award winners and highlight the importance of management, fiscal accountability and audit independence to the American free enterprise system and America's overall security and success. The 2002 winners are Motorola Inc. Commercial, Government and Industrial Solutions Sector, Schaumburg, Ill.; Branch-Smith Printing Division, Fort Worth, Texas; and SSM Health Care, St. Louis, Mo., the first Baldrige Award winner in the health care category. Following Secretary Evans' address, the first morning of the conference will include a discussion by the chief executives of the three 2002 Baldrige Award winners on his or her role in guiding the organization and how each organization addresses its responsibilities to the public. Throughout the three-day conference, senior leaders and others will discuss their best practices, results and lessons learned on their quest for excellence.
