This Friday, President George W. Bush and Secretary of Commerce Donald L. Evans are scheduled to present the 2000 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, the nation's premier award for business performance excellence and quality achievement, to four U.S. companies. Dana Corp.-Spicer Driveshaft of Toledo, Ohio; KARLEE of Garland, Texas; Operations Management International Inc. (OMI) of Greenwood Village, Colo; and Los Alamos National Bank of Los Alamos, N.M. will receive the award in a ceremony. The Baldrige Award is a public/private partnership to promote quality and performance excellence in the United States. The award is named after Malcolm Baldrige, Secretary of Commerce from 1981 until his death in a rodeo accident in July 1987. Baldrige was a proponent of quality management as a key to this country's prosperity and long-term growth and helped draft one of the early versions of the quality improvement act.
