Uncertainty Budgets for SOP 14

The purpose of this webinar is to enable laboratory metrology staff to specify uncertainties for SOP 14 following the Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement, using SOP 14, SOP 29, and other applicable resources that will be provided.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this 2-hour session, using notes and SOP 29 and SOP 14, participants will be able to:

  • EXPLAIN the components of uncertainty that need to be included or JUSTIFY their status as negligible;
  • DEVELOP an uncertainty budget based on concepts presented in NISTIR 7383, SOP 14;
  • CALCULATE and REPORT measurement uncertainties for SOP 14 calibrations.

Technology Requirement(s):

You will need the following to participate in the webinar:

  • Computer or laptop
  • Internet browser, a broadband connection is recommended
  • Telephone. Optional: a telephone headset

Materials & Supplies:

SOP 14
 (download from: http://www.nist.gov/pml/wmd/labmetrology/calibration.cfm)

Prerequisite(s):

Participants are expected to have previous training on SOP 14, Gravimetric Calibration of Volumetric Ware procedure, and laboratory experience in its application. (OJT training is required as a minimum; OWM Basic Metrology or Volume Seminar attendance is preferred.)

Minimum Requirement(s):

Completion includes completing pre-work assignment, full attendance and participation in the session activities and discussion, and completing an on-line evaluation after the course.

Cost:

The current fee for webinars is $199 and confirmed participants will be provided a link to make a payment. Registration fees for State weights and measures regulatory officials and metrologists are funded by NIST OWM.

Audience:

State laboratory staff who have responsibilities for developing, implementing, and/or improving the uncertainty analyses methods and reporting in their laboratory as well as those who are seeking OWM recognition and/or accreditation or improvements to support recognition/accreditation through adding this measurement to their Scope. This course is available for non-weights and measures participants.
