Cathy Smith is the Senior International Specialist for the Office of International and Academic Affairs (OIAA) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Mrs. Smith joined NIST, formerly the National Bureau of Standards (NBS), in July 1972 and has been in OIAA since January 1973. Mrs. Smith is responsible for the administration of the Foreign Guest Researcher Program; management of NIST’s Exchange Visitor (J-1) Program, and is the prime contact for NIST with the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS).

Mrs. Smith was awarded the Eugene Casson Crittenden Award in 1986 for her outstanding contributions to the Foreign Guest Researcher Program.

Mrs. Smith received the Sigma Xi Certificate of Recognition in 1991 for her outstanding service in support of NIST research scientists.
