Applying for Jobs - Required Documents

The documents needed for this position depend upon how you are applying. Please refer to the following chart when determining the documents required.

If you are applying as....
Then you must submit....
 A current federal employee in a permanent, competitive, career/career-conditional position. This does not apply to the time limited or excepted service appointments (i.e., term, temporary, student, post doctoral, etc.)

Current SF-50, Notification of Personnel Action,
indicating tenure (block 24) and type of appointment
(block 34)

 A former federal employee eligible for reinstatement

 A candidate with military service DD-214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from
Active Duty) indicating character of service
Active Duty Military Statement of Service or Certificate from branch of armed forces indicating character of service and release date.
A candidate with military service AND a service connected disability

DD-214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from
Active Duty) indicating character of service AND

VA Letter stating that you have either:

  • a compensable service-connected disability
    rating 30% or more disabled, or
  • a compensable service-connected disability
    rating of at least 10% but less than 30%
Spouses and mothers of disabled/deceased veterans (Derived Preference)

Spouse of a disabled veteran:  

  • Official statement from Department of Veterans
    Affairs or a branch of the Armed Forces certifying the veteran has a 100 %service connected disability;
  • Copy of marriage certificate;
  • DD-214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) indicating character of
    service; AND
  • SF-15.

Widow/Widower:

  • Document showing service member was released
    or discharged from active duty due to his or her
    death while on active duty;
  • Documentation verifying service was killed while on active duty;
  • Statement certifying that he or she is the
    un-remarried widow or widower of the service
    member;
  • DD-214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from
    Active Duty) indicating character of service; AND
  • SF-15.

Mother of deceased or disabled veteran:

  • Documents verifying that your son or daughter
    died under honorable conditions while on active duty during a war or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign medal was authorized; AND
  • Marriage certificate verifying your marriage to the 
    father of the veteran; AND
  • Document verifying you live with a permanently disabled husband; ordocuments verifying that you are a widow, divorced, or separated from the veteran's father and have not remarried (if remarried, include documents to show you are widowed, divorced, or legally separated from your husband at the time you claim derived preference).
Spouse preference based on Permanent Change of Station (PCS)
  • Copy of marriage certificate;
  • Copy of PCS orders verifying the spouse is authorized to accompany the service member to the permanent duty station, the effective date of the move, and the location of the permanent duty station; AND
  • Statement certifying one time use of derived preference based upon PCS.

 

 A candidate eligible for the Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP)
  • RIF Notice
  • SF-50 (Notification of Personnel Action)
  • Most recent performance plan with rating
 A candidate with higher level education (college/university)
 All transcripts (unofficial* or official)

Documentation issued from a licensed medical professional; a licensed vocational rehabilitation specialist; or any Federal agency, State agency, or an agency of the District of Columbia or a US territory that issues or provides disability benefits.


The documentation must be signed, on official letterhead, and certify that the applicant is an individual with a severe physical, intellectual, or psychological disability that qualifies him/her for consideration under 5 CFR 213.3102 (u), Schedule A hiring authority, appointment for Persons with Disabilities.

A candidate for Pathways Internship Position 
  • Transcripts (unofficial* or official) - Transcripts must show that you are currently enrolled as a student and display cumulative GPA.
  • Proof of Enrollment: If you are not currently enrolled, you must submit proof of enrollment. For example, a letter from the registrar's office or acceptance letter from an accredited educational institution. The documentation must confirm the following: the degree/diploma program in which you have been accepted and that you will be enrolled on at least a half-time basis for the upcoming semester.

Pathways Intern eligible for Non-Competitive Conversion
  • Transcripts (unofficial* or official) documenting completion of academic program
  • Proof of completion of at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program
  • Most recent performance plan with rating
  • SF-50 *If selected, official transcripts will be required prior to appointment.
A candidate for Pathways Recent Graduate Position 
  • Transcripts (unofficial* or official) documenting completion of academic program
