How to Apply for NVLAP Accreditation

An application for NVLAP accreditation consists of three parts:

  • General Application
  • Program-Specific Application (selection of test methods/calibration parameters)
  • Fee payment.

A laboratory may apply for accreditation in any of the established Fields of Accreditation in one of two ways:

1. Through the NVLAP Interactive Web Site (NIWS)

The NIWS is a web-based application designed to enable a laboratory to securely submit its application over the Internet. This system is currently available to laboratories enrolled in 16 fields of accreditation (see list of available fields at the NIWS launch page). An applicant laboratory may use this system if all required supporting documents, including the laboratory quality manual, are in an electronic format that can be uploaded to NVLAP's information system.

2. Through paper-based application forms

Application forms are found at Print NVLAP Application Forms and may be viewed and printed using Adobe Reader. You may download this viewer for free on all platforms from the Adobe web site.

To print an application package, proceed to Instructions for Completing Application.

If you are unable to load and use Adobe Reader, an application package may be obtained free-of-charge by contacting NVLAP.

Have you tried the NIWS?

NVLAP is pleased to announce the newest release of the NVLAP Interactive Web Site (NIWS) - release 4.0 - a way to renew your laboratory's accreditation on-line in 4 simple steps:

  • Review current application information.
  • Make changes needed to renew.
  • Upload supporting documentation (e.g., quality manual)
  • Pay by credit card, check, or purchase order.

The NIWS is available to laboratoratories enrolled in 14 fields of accreditation.  More programs will be brought on-line as development proceeds.
