On December 8 - 9, 2011, a meeting on Privacy- Enhancing Cryptography: "Working with encrypted data without decrypting" was held at NIST, Gaithersburg, Maryland USA. The workshop discussed how modern cryptographic techniques can help protect privacy in an environment where many players are collaborating and competing as consumers and producers of digital goods and services. Among the discussion topics are medical databases, on-line auctions, privacy-friendly smart-meters, and identity management as envisioned by the National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace.
On October 19, 2011, NSTIC presented a series of discussions at Internet Identity Workshop (IIW), October 18-20 at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, CA. Notes from the Workshop are available from <http://iiw.identitycommons.net/IIW_13_Notes>.

In June 2011, two workshops were held: one in Washington, DC, focused on governance, and a second in Cambridge, MA, exploring the privacy issues associated with implementation of the NSTIC.
