About the NIST Committee for Women (NCW):

NCW is a volunteer employee organization that is dedicated to promoting the career interests of women at NIST and to providing a network in which to accomplish that objective. To meet these goals, the organization sponsors a wide selection of lectures, group activities, and informal forums. NCW addresses such topics as career paths, women in science and technology, balancing career, education and family, as well as showcasing successful women speakers as role models. The group activities serve as informal mentoring and networking opportunities.

In addition, NCW conducts several outreach activities. The organization provides scholarships to girls and boys who want to participate in the 4-H program, Adventures in Science. NCW also hosts an annual Take Our Daughters to Work Day, as part of the international event designed to give girls and boys the opportunity to observe many careers in action. (In 2001 we had over 100 girls and boys participate).

As a service activity, NCW works with the Salvation Army to coordinate the collection of holiday gifts and clothes for needy children.

The organization is wholly supported by its members and is open to anyone whose regular place of employment is at NIST. Our membership is diverse in terms of career path, experience, age, gender, and race and ethnicity.
