Carol E. Laumeier, M.B.A.

Award-winning communicator with more than 25 years of experience in communications management, including public relations/outreach, Web site development, writing/editorial services, publication design/production, and marketing. 10½ years of project management and technical experience as a consultant managing environmental projects for the U.S. Department of Energy.

Role

As Customer Engagement Director for the Polymers Division and the NIST Combinatorial Methods Center (NCMC), leads and manages internal and external communications to disseminate research results and activities through the development, writing, design, and production of outreach materials.   Plans and executes outreach activities, including the semi-annual NCMC Industry Workshop, Web sites, employee e-newsletter articles, monthly highlights, fact sheets, reports, tour stop descriptions, CDs, and posters.  Interfaces with technical staff to write and edit communications on science topics, in layman's language, in a journalistic style.  Interfaces with customer contacts to attract, develop, and retain membership in the NCMC consortium.  Performs special outreach activities for the Materials Science and Engineering Operation (MSEL); as MSEL Team Captain (2007) and Polymers Key Worker (2006-2007) for the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), achieved 119 percent of the donation goal in 2007, as recognized by a President's Award.

  • Proficient in the use of PC and Macintosh hardware and software, including Acid Pro, Acrobat, AWARD, CommonSpot, DeltaGraph Pro, Excel, Freehand, LINKS, MacDraw Pro, MSAccess, MSFrontPage, MSProject, MSPublisher, MSWord (70+ WPM), PageMaker, Persuasion, Photoshop, PowerPoint, Techno eJay, and TimeSlips
  • Experienced in the editorial styles of the American Psychological Association (APA), Associated Press (AP), and the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO)
  • Experienced in the use of photographic and graphic tools and equipment
  • Basic knowledge of Spanish
