Department of Commerce Bronze Medal Award

The Department of Commerce Bronze Medal Award is the highest honorary award granted by the NIST Director.  A Bronze Medal is defined as superior performance characterized by outstanding or significant contributions which have increased the efficiency and effectiveness of NIST.

Dr. Smith, along with a team of NIST Scientists, received the Department of Commerce Bronze Medal Award for advancing nanoscale science by developing the world's first force standards applicable to measurements of single-molecules and atomic interactions.
