In 1978, Ms. Kemmerer started her professional career in Philadelphia working for the United States Naval Supply Systems Command in foreign military sales. She subsequently, migrated south to continue this civilian navy career in Crystal City, VA. After several years of naval foreign military sales work, she transitioned into the operational computer-support side of the navy. After eight years of civilian defense career, Ms. Kemmerer made a career and geographical move in 1986 to work for the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), in Gaithersburg, MD. While at NIST, Ms. Kemmerer’s roles and responsibilities have varied over the years and have included: serving as the Department of Commerce representative to a program-related NATO Board, and serving on various national and international standards-development organizations for graphical and product data standards. She was the recipient of a Commerce, Science and Technology (COMSCI) Fellowship in 1992, serving in the Department of Commerce Technology Administration. Currently, she is the Deputy Chief of the Manufacturing Systems Integration Division with the Manufacturing Engineering Laboratory at NIST. She has published numerous papers on program-related initiatives, conformance testing, and served as editor for a NIST special publication on the Standard for Exchange of Product model data (STEP). |
