The Machine Systems (MS) Group is one of five groups within the Intelligent Systems Division of the Manufacturing Engineering Laboratory (MEL) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The MS Group conducts research in a host of areas to address issues in advancement of intelligent and complex machines. The MS Group, works on a portfolio of internal and other agency funded research projects addressing development of performance metrics, development of measurement techniques, test protocols and test methods, development of sensor calibration techniques, development of standard interfaces, and provides expertise in control system architectures. The MS Group works with other agencies to develop and conduct extensive performance characterization experiments for robots, including mobile robots, and their mobility, planning, and perception subsystems, and organizes competitions to encourage advancement in intelligent machine capabilities. ![]() Army Research Laboratory Perception/ Performance Evaluation — The detection, classification, and tracking of moving vehicles and people from an unmanned vehicle maneuvering at speeds of up to 80 kph remain a recognized risk to the successful development of … |
