Jim Gilsinn is an Electronics Engineer in the Intelligent Systems Division, part of the Manufacturing Engineering Laboratory at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. His major focus involves industrial network reliability, including both performance and security.  As the lead engineer for the Industrial Ethernet Network Performance project and member of the EtherNet/IP™ Interoperability PlugFest committee, he strives to promote standard metrics, tests, and tools for determining the network performance of industrial Ethernet devices.

Jim also works to promote industrial network security, primarily through his work with the International Society of Automation (ISA) standards committee on industrial automation and control systems security (ISA-99).He serves as the lead editor for the ANSI/ISA-99.02.01-2009 standard, titled Establishing an Industrial Automation and Control Systems Security Program. He also participates in the ISA-99 management working group and acts as the ISA-99 liaison to both the United States Council for Automotive Research (USCAR) Plant Floor Controllers Task Force and the EtherNet/IP Implementors Workshop. He was the ISA Expo Security Conference track chair from 2007-2009.

Jim's leadership in the ISA-99 committee led ISA to appoint him as a Senior Member and also to elect him to the ISA Standards & Practices Board in 2007. He is currently the managing director of multiple standards committees in ISA.
