Abstract

Hand-held touch probes and laser scanners are increasing the scope and applicability of laser trackers. While methods to evaluate the performance of laser trackers in conjunction with spherically-mounted retro-reflectors (SMRs) are well established, methods for evaluating the performance of hand-held accessories [1-2] are still under discussion within ISO 10360-10. We discuss the performance of a touch-probe based hand-held laser tracker accessory in this paper. Single point articulation tests (SPATs) are commonly employed both to calibrate and to test these devices. We have modeled a hand-held accessory and subsequently performed simulations to understand the influence of different error parameters on measured coordinates in two different configurations of SPATs. We present preliminary simulations and experimental results here.
