Abstract

In 2008, the International Society for Biological and Environmental Repositories (ISBER) developed a new initiative during its annual meeting to develop Working Groups (WGs) that were organized around timely, challenging issues related to biobanking and composed of ISBER members who had expertise and experiences in the WG’s subject matter that were committed to advancing a dialogue and produce work products that made a difference to the discipline of biobanking. Today there are nine (9) ISBER WGs, many of which were formed in 2008, that are facing these challenges head on and developing deliverables such as, white papers, journal publications, analytical tools for better research results, and contributing to the ISBER Best Practices Guidelines. Members of the WGs meet annually at the ISBER Annual Meeting to discuss and determine if the current goals and work products are still current to today’s biobanking challenges as well as to develop any new goals or work products for the coming year.
