Abstract

The physical and chemical properties of a tissue scaffold influences cell response and therefore the success of the resulting tissue construct. Scaffold structure from nanometers to millimeters can direct cell behavior, from viability to proliferation to differentiation. We have developed three dimensional (3D) computational approaches to quantitatively describe scaffold geometry and capture the critical scaffold metrics that influence cell response. In this work, we present the computational infrastructure developed for the 3D calculation scaffold shape metrics and present these metrics for a scaffold with simple geometry.
