Abstract

BACnet was developed to enable integration of building automation and control products from multiple vendors and to allow building owners the freedom to by products based on price and performance, rather than compatibility with currently installed building control products. This article describes the real-world experience of using BACnet technology in NIST facilities. The NIST campus provides an interesting test case for the technology because it involves the integration of multiple buildings with a wide range of control needs from conventional office space to precision-controlled laboratories that are unique in the world.
