Abstract

The present work has as its vision that there should be a standard means of collecting and transporting building information (and most importantly real-time system data) available in buildings out to the public safety officers that need it. This includes most importantly moving information out to fire and police responders, but also to medical responders, dispatch, city and state governments, national guard, criminal investigation units, and others who might need the information at the time of a building incident or afterwards.The current project begins the process of developing technology and standards to realize this vision. A workshop was held in May, 2004 to gather information from first responders about their building information needs. This work has already been incorporated into proposed presentation standards, and also used by manufacturers of systems to display information to first responders. A possible technology data path is proposed that will allow information collection and transport to the emergency responder and a security analysis addresses the security concerns of the information transfer. And a demonstration of the technology was held at NIST in February, 2005, with a documentary video produced. This project final report satisfies one of the three main deliverables of a project funded via the NIST Office of Law Enforcement Standards.
