| Title: | Comparison of Classical and MALDI-TOF-MS Analysis of a Polystyrene Interlaboratory Sample |
| Published: | January 01, 1999 |
| Abstract: | Over the past several years, the use of MALDI-TOF-MS for analysis of synthetic polymers has increased significantly. As the number of polymer analyses by MALDI has increased, scrutiny of the MALDI results in comparison to classically derived values for Mw, Mn and MWD, defined as the mass average molecular mass, the number average molecular mass and the molar mass distribution, respectively, has resulted. The results of MALDI and classical analysis do not always agree. In anticipation of the need for reference standards for calibration and intercomparison of current and future MALDI analytical methods, NIST has initiated an intercomparison of Mn and Mw determinations by MALDI. |
