| Title: | Infrared Synchrotron Radiation from Charged Particles Accelerated by a Confined Region of Magnetic Field |
| Published: | Date Unknown |
| Abstract: | A new theoretical approach for treating the synchrotron radiation is applied to the case of a relativistic charged particle accelerated by a confined and uniform magnetic field. As a direct consequence of this approach, we show that a simple and intuitive physical picture can be used to explain the enhancement of long wavelength radiation when a charged particle encounters discontinuities in magnetic field such as the well-known effect of the edge radiation. We give both qualitative and quantitative description of the angular distribution of radiation emitted by a charged particle going through a region with uniform magnetic field and the dependence of the radiation on the length of the magnetic field region for the long wavelengths. |
