Abstract: Two multi-channel filter radiometers were calibrated using three different techniques: against a lamp-illuminated integrating sphere source, against a laser-illuminated integrating sphere source and by cross-calibration against a primary sun photometer. The radiometers are used in the Sensor Intercomparison and Merger for Biological and Interdisciplinary Oceanic Studies (SIMBIOS) program of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) at the Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC). Measurements from the instruments are used for determinations of radiative properties of the atmosphere, such as aerosol optical thickness. The goal of this work was to compare the different calibration methods, evaluate the uncertainties, and assess the impact on remote sensing applications.
