| Title: | Introduction to Journal of Modern Optics Special Issue on Single Photon: Sources, Detectors, Applications and Measurement Methods |
| Published: | January 20, 2007 |
| Abstract: | In October 2005, a 2-day follow up workshop, Single photon: sources, detectors, applications and measurement methods, was held at the NPL (National Physical Laboratory, UK). The focus for this workshop was to report on the key developments since the previous workshop and to bring together the QIP source and detector communities and the detector community from the medical, nuclear and astro-physics fields. There were 82 international delegates. As in the special issue following the 2003 workshop, this issue attempts to capture a snap shot of photon-counting research from a wide variety of photon-counting disciplines, 2 years on. This volume contains 23 papers originating out of the workshop presentations, as well as including relevant papers from researchers who had not attended the event. It was agreed at the 2005 workshop that developments are occurring rapidly enough that the community should meet every 2 years. |
