|Title:||Effect of Bromine Substitution on the Lifetimes and Ozone Depletion Potentials of Organic Compounds|

|Abstract:||Over the past several years, we have determined the kinetics of the reactions of the hydroxyl radial, OH, for a wide range of bromine-containing compounds that may be sufficiently short lived to have negligible environmental consequences. The reactions of OH control the atmospheric removal of these compounds and thus their atmospheric lifetimes. This effort has involved the use of experimental measurements as well as ab initio quantum mechanical computations. In addition, we have measured the ultraviolet spectra of many of these compounds. This information is combined with the tropospheric lifetime to obtain the predicted ozone depletion potential of the substances, making use of a computational algorithm we have also developed. In this presentation, we will present an overview of these results, along with a discussion of our methodology for predicting lifetimes and for obtaining ozone depletion potentials.|
