Nearest Neighbors Example

Open the image of Nickel spheres:
- Help / Samples & Info... / Images / Nickel Spheres (Then close the *Samples* button window.)
- Or: use File / Open and select Ni-Spheres-10um.tif from the lx-Images folder.
Blob the spheres using the Blob Tool.

Lower right portion of nickel sphere image. Threshold slider in default position.

Lists and Tables of Neighbor Distances

All of these tables are text tab-delimited, and can be cut and tasted into spreadsheets.

List of NN Distances

Nbrs / List NN Distances

This lists each blob and the distance to its nearest neighbor. Idx1 and idx2 are the indices of the blobs. Distances are in pixels.

Tables of N Nearest Nbr Distance

Nbrs / Tables of N Nearest Nbr Distances

This gives three text windows, initially on top of each other until you move them.

Table 1 lists the distances (in pixels) between each blob and each of its N neighbors.
Table2 lists the averages and standard deviations of the distances for each blob. (Here, the distances to the four nearest neighbors.)
Table 3 lists the averages by neighbor - all of the nearest neighbor distances for all blobs, all of the second nearest neighbor distances for all blobs, etc. Table 3 also gives the grand average - of all the neighbor distances (Here, all blobs, distances to four nearest neighbors.)
