ITL Briefings Focus on New Information and Communications Technologies
On March 29, 2000, Gabe Ofiesh, Guest Researcher in ITL's Visualization and Virtual Reality Group, presented a briefing on current trends in information and communications. He reviewed and discussed Tim Berners-Lee's new book, Weaving the Web. The review included video and audio excerpts from Charlie Rose's and Diane Rehm's recent interviews with Berners-Lee. For the past 30 years, Ofiesh has been tracking and analyzing new information and communications technologies and their potential impact on human development. His present research efforts focus on new paradigms in Distance Education involving the use of interactive multimedia, visualization, and virtual reality in enhancing the learning process and education. He is currently writing a book on Lifelong Learning in Cyberspace and a monograph on Redefining the Role of the Teacher in the Digital Age. Ofiesh will host briefings on the last Wednesday of each month in the Information Visualization Laboratory, Building 225, Room A244, from 12:00 noon to 1:00pm.
