VRML and QTVR get Married

A QuickTime VR Panorama mapped onto a VRML cylinder

This VRML cylinder is wrapped with a texture generated using Apple's QuickTime VR software. The texture is special in that is a mapping of 360 degrees onto a planar surface. Wrapping the texture onto a cylinder and placing the viewers synthetic camera in the middle of the cylinder effectivly unwarps the image.

Feel free to take this texture and experiment yourself. This is a scene on the NIST campus between the library and the Technology building.

FREE SOFTWARE This just in....Chris Schoeneman and the good folks at LightScape have just made available a little SGI executable that takes a QuickTime VR pan (in SGI rgb format) and let's you pan around with a high frame rate on your low end SGI. Check it out.

Many thanks to Greg Seidman who after a 30 second conversation actually put the VRML file together.
