NIST is hosting a two-part workshop on urban greenhouse gas measurements, April 5 & 6, 2016 at the Gaithersburg, MD facility. Sponsored by NIST's Greenhouse Gas Measurements Program, the first workshop (April 5) on Urban Greenhouse Gas Measurements will bring together researchers engaged in urban emissions from five U.S. cities, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Boston, Salt Lake City, and the Northeast Corridor. The workshop will identify measurement challenges associated with detecting and quantifying emissions independent of the source characteristics, discuss the current status of modeling efforts, summarize issues of current interest, and explore challenges specific to individual urban settings. Discussions will clarify research goals and issues that will improve quantification of urban greenhouse gas emissions.
The second workshop, on April 6, will focus on the Indianapolis Flux Experiment (INFLUX) and its measurements and modeling progress. Presentations and discussion will review current status of the research efforts, identify further challenges of emissions quantification using atmospheric inversion, mass balance, and related methodologies. Discussions will focus on near and mid-term research objectives.
