Monthly Result August 2013

During August 2013, the NZERTF consumed 953 kWh of electrical energy. The solar electric photovoltaic system generated 1162 kWh of electricity during the month. The difference between the energy produced by the solar photovoltaic system and the energy consumed by the NZERTF,209 kWh, was exported to the electric grid. A graphical representation of the energy consumed and generated is found in the year to date results.

The following chart breaks down the total energy consumed by the house into the various end uses. For the month of August the greatest energy end use was for maintaining the interior of the house at 75 F +/- 1 F (24 C +/- 0.5 C), followed by assorted plug loads and appliance energy usage.

NZERTF August 2013 energy use by category graph: heating/cooling/ventilation=521.7, plug loads=167.1, lighting=31.9, appliance=134.8, hot water heating=97.8

The chart below breakdowns the overall appliance end use, 134.8 kWh, in July into the energy consumed by individual appliances. During the month of August 2013 the greatest appliance energy usage was associated with the clothes dryer, followed by the refrigerator and oven.

NZERT August 2013 energy use by appliance graph: dishwasher=6.4, clothes washer=4.6, clothes dryer=39.8, refrigerator=30.3, cooktop=16.4, oven=27.0, microwave=10.4
