Cheryl Thornton is the Administrative Office Assistant for the Fire Fighting Technology Group in the Fire Research Division (FRD) of the Engineering Laboratory (EL) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). She began her career at NIST in November 2010 as a Mail Room Clerk where she quickly took advantage of all the Administrative courses offered by the Commerce Learning Center. In March of 2011, she was accepted in the Administrative Professional Certificate Program offered by the U.S. Department of Commerce Office of Human Resources Management and successfully completed the 18 month course and now holds an APCP certification.
Cheryl also attended a week long course in June of 2011 and obtained a certification as an Executive Mail Center Manager.
Cheryl continued to work hard and applied for and was hired as an Administrative Office Assistant with the Fire Fighting Technologies Group, Building Fire & Research Laboratory Division (BFRL) and continues to serve as the Administrative Office Assistant for the Fire Fighting Technologies Group under Daniel Madrzykowski.
Cheryl has an extensive background in medical billing and coding along with a host of other administrative talents, such as website creation and design, creating PowerPoint presentations, and some contract authoring.
Cheryl is formerly a student of Strayer University, Rockville, MD campus where she maintained a 3.50 GPA for the 3 semesters she attended. Currently Cheryl is attending Montgomery College where she is working towards obtaining an Associate’s degree in Cyber Security and Computer Networking, with an interest in Video Technology.
