DUANE A. ADAMS

Duane A. Adams is Vice Provost for Research at Carnegie Mellon University. From 1992-1996, he served as Deputy Director of the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA), assigned to ARPA through the Intergovernmental Personnel Act from Carnegie Mellon University. Dr. Adams came to Carnegie Mellon University in 1985 where he has been a Principal Research Scientist and the Associate Dean for Research in the School of Computer Science.

Dr. Adams spent 20 years in the Air Force, with assignments at the Air Force Weapons Lab at Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico; Stanford University; the Air Force Academy where he was Associate Professor of Computer Science; the Office of the Secretary of Defense; and Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency.

Dr. Adams has participated in numerous committees and workshops since retiring form the Air Force. These include: Member of the Defense Technologies Study which led to the Strategic Defense Initiative; Member of The White House Science Council Committee on Research in Very High Performing Computing; Member of National Research Council studies; Participant in National Science Foundation committees; and Member of the Army Science Board.

Dr. Adams received his B.A. in mathematics from the University of Montana; an M.A. in mathematics from the University of California at Berkeley, and a Ph.D. in computer science from Stanford University.
