GOVERNOR COLUMBIA 29211
GREETINGS
On behalf of
the State of South Carolina, I am pleased to extend best wishes
as you celebrate the opening of the Hall of State Flags at the National
Institute of Standards and Technology.
This occasion
provides a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the many successes
of the National Institute of Standards and Technology since its
chartering in 1901. First known as the National Bureau of Standards,
the nation's first physical science laboratory tackled the challenging
task of bringing order to the American Commercial Industry. Throughout
the years, it has maintained a steadfast commitment to promoting
better commerce and research while supporting industry, scientific
institutions, and all branches of government. The cooperative relationships
that have been fostered by the NIST have ensured many businesses
have been able to meet the technological challenges of the future.
The State of
South Carolina has benefited greatly from the NIST's dedication
to improving the quality of life of the citizens of our nation by
providing needed assistance to countless businesses and institutions.
The Palmetto State is very honored to have a part in this wonderful
celebration of American ingenuity and creativity. As the NIST begins
the next century of service, I am confident it will be able to meet
the challenges of the future while maintaining the standard of excellence
that has become its trademark over the past century. I commend the
NIST for its continued dedication to ensuring our nation remains
the leader in technology and industry throughout the world.
Again, I extend
my best wishes for an enjoyable celebration and I hope that you
will let me know if I may ever be of assistance to you.
