U. S. Department of Commerce
Gaithersburg, MD 29899

Dear Friends,

I am proud to extend Oklahoma's official greetings and best wishes as the National Institute of Standards and Technology celebrates 100 years of distinguished service to our nation.

Originally created in 1901 as the National Bureau of Standards, the Institute continues to fulfill its very first mission --to serve as a central clearinghouse and monitor of industrial and technological processes in support of the private sector's quest for uniform standards. That effort has been a significant factor in a century of progress and prosperity for America, and it is one reason our industries remain unchallenged world leaders in so many areas as we enter the new millennium.

In my state as in others, the Institute continues to serve individual companies with advice and research findings that make their tasks easier and more profitable. The Institute is a 100 year old success story, blending the best of the public and private sectors, and we look forward to a second century of service and progress.

Sincerely,

Frank Keating
