Public Safety and Security Research Activities

CSTL plays a key role in enhancing the nation’s homeland security. Through the development of measurements and standards infrastructure that ensures the accuracy, reliability, and security of systems critical to public and national security, CSTL provides products and services that help Federal, state, and local organizations meet their responsibilities to protect the lives, rights, property, and privileges of the members of the U.S. public.  CSTL researchers develop, compare and test new technologies to identify national threats and put forth the standards necessary to ensure safe and responsible responses to incidents.  Many of these technologies and products are now used internationally, ensuring mitigation of threats prior to their arrival at U.S. borders.
