Sander Otte is a CNST/UMD Postdoctoral Researcher in the Electron Physics Group in the CNST. He received M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Physics from Leiden University, The Netherlands. Part of his thesis work was performed in collaboration with the IBM Almaden Research Center in San Jose, CA, where he spent six months. His research focuses on the magnetic properties of individual atomic spins, probed through inelastic electron tunneling spectroscopy. He has a number of high profile publications and has been an invited speaker at several international meetings. At the CNST, Sander is working on the development of an ultra-low temperature (20 mK) scanning tunneling microscopy designed to probe the quantum electronic properties of nanostructures.
