Light Interaction with Nanoresonators

Simply because they enhance the electromagnetic field, micro/nano resonators play an important role in modern photonics. However, the theory of optical resonance is challenging especially for high-loss plasmonic resonances. I will try to explain what is an optical resonance, what is the associated mode, how can we excite the mode with light, what is the mode volume, by focusing on three topics

  1. the Purcell factor of plasmonic resonances http://journals.aps.org/prl/abstract/10.1103/PhysRevLett.110.237401
  2. quenching in metal-insulator-metal nanogaps http://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/acsphotonics.5b00424
  3. perturbation theory for plasmonic resonance http://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/acs.nanolett.5b00771
