Sangmin An is a CNST/UMD Postdoctoral Researcher in the Nanofabrication Research Group. He received a B.S. in Electronics and Communications Engineering from the Korea Maritime University, Korea and a Ph.D. in Physics from the Seoul National University, Korea. His doctoral research focused on developing a low-volume liquid delivery system using a nanopipette combined with a quartz tuning fork-atomic force microscope along with all digital phase-locked loop-based frequency modulation. Sangmin is working with Rachel Cannara to develop techniques for displacement-controlled atomic force microscopy (AFM) and to combine novel AFM systems with Raman spectroscopy, with the goal of producing new measurement techniques that relate local materials properties to interfacial forces at the nanometer scale.
