Center Information
The NIST Child Care Center has been in operation since September 1983. The Center was originally founded by NIST staff
and management who were committed to the idea of establishing a quality child care center on the NIST work site.
Since 1983, the Center has grown in size and reputation and it continues to be an important part of the NIST facility.
The Center was proud to be the first program in Maryland to receive accreditation through the National Association for
the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). In 1988, the NIST Child Care Center was recognized by the Congressional Caucus
for Women's Issues for being among the "Best-on-the-Block" in providing employer-sponsored child care center services.
The vision of the original founders to provide an excellent child care center, convenient to the workplace, has continued to grow and flourish into the award-winning program seen today at the Gaithersburg site.
Parent Involvement
The personal involvement of parents and their close proximity to the Center contribute to the success and quality of the Center. Parents are encouraged to actively participate in the program by volunteering for a variety of projects, attending field trips, helping with fund raisers, or serving on the Association's Child Care Board. Parents are always welcome to spend time with their children at the Center and a variety of parent-child activities are planned throughout the year.
